11 Muslims converted to Hinduism, says VHP

A ceremony organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad to convert 11 Muslims to Hinduism at Varanappally in Kayamkulam on Wednesday.

A few days after arranging the reconversion of 30 Christians, the Chengannur district unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Wednesday claimed to have converted 11 Muslims to Hinduism at a ceremony in Kayamkulam.

As in the previous instance, the conversion ritual was kept under wraps by VHP functionaries until its conclusion. The ceremony took place at Kizhavoor Yakshi Amman Temple at Varanappally from 7 a.m. for around two hours in the presence of VHP workers.

VHP Chengannur district president Prathap G. Padickal said the persons belonged to three families, one hailing from Arattupuzha and the others from Kayamkulam.

“A member each of two couples had been forcibly converted to Islam as part of love jihad years ago,” he said and added that the third family hailed from Tamil Nadu and had settled in the State.

“All the three families have been practising Hindu rituals and customs for some time. They had approached the VHP seeking our assistance for the conversion,” Mr. Padickal said.

He refused to divulge the identities of the three families in order to “ensure their protection”.

The VHP leader also declined to say whether there would be further conversions in the region in the coming days.
