₹10 lakh too less: UDF

Chennithala calls for waiver of farm loans

The United Democratic Front (UDF) has asked the Union government to sanction a special package for Kerala to help it tide over the flood crisis that has affected all sectors.

Addressing a press meet soon after a meeting of the district leaders of the UDF here on Monday, Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said the ₹260 crore released by the Centre was grossly insufficient.

Reiterating the UDF’s decision to support the State government’s efforts to bring relief to the victims, Mr. Chennithala said the ₹10 lakh compensation for loss of house or property was insufficient. The government should also consider waiver of farm loans.

All UDF MPs and MLAs will contribute ₹10,000 each towards the Chief Minister’s relief fund. The government should cancel all celebrations related to Onam and Bakrid and divert the amounts earmarked for relief work.
