Youth Congress opposes ‘ordinance culture’

January 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - DHARWAD/ BELAGAVI:

The Youth Congress has opposed the Union government’s attempt to bring in an ordinance to amend the Land Acquisition Act.

Umesh Boregouda, Dharwad district president of the organisation, said that the Union government was in a hurry to implement the Act to favour industrialists.

It was a pity that Prime Minister Narendra Modi opted for issuing an ordinance with scant regard for parliamentary democracy, he said.

The Youth Congress members would hold a protest in front of the taluk offices on January 22 and conduct a signature campaign on January 28 and 29.

Protests would be held in front of the houses of BJP parliamentarians and legislators on February 3, Mr. Boregouda said.

Procession

In Belagavi, the Youth Congress activists took out a procession and shouted slogans against the Union government for taking back farmers’ rights on their land to “favour corporate bodies”.

The BJP was showing its true colours by taking anti-farmer and anti-people decisions, Channaraj Hattiholi and Vinay Navalgatti, Youth Congress leaders, alleged.
