A youth allegedly beheaded his friend and surrendered to the police along with the severed head. The incident occurred at Chikka Hebbagilu in Belakawadi police station limits, near Malavalli of the district, on Saturday.

According to the police, Pashupathi (24), with blood-soaked shirt and shorts, walked into the station with the head of his friend Girish (25) in his hand. He confessed to the crime and surrendered. Lewd comments by Girish on Pashupathi’s mother was said to be the motive behind the crime, said the police.

The incident triggered panic on either side of the road between Chikka Hebbagilu and the station, and none of the villagers/passersby dared to speak to the accused.

An axe that was used by the accused to chop the body was also recovered from the spot. Pashupathi has been arrested.
