Bellur, a small sleepy village in Kolar district, about 50 km from the State capital, is gearing up to celebrate International Yoga Day. This celebration, however, will be unique as relatives of the internationally-renowned Yoga guru, late B.K.S. Iyengar, will participate.

The yoga session will be held at 9 a.m. on the premises of Smt. Ramamani Sundararaj Iyengar Institutions at Ramamaninagar in Bellur village. A number of relatives of the late Iyengar, who was born in Bellur, will also take part. “Mr. Iyengar’s daughter Savitha is prominent among them,” Ramamani Degree College lecturer Pradeepkumar V. told The Hindu on Friday. Over 1,000 people, including students and teaching faculty of different educational institutions run by BKS Memorial Trust and local residents, will participate.

Even though he had settled in Pune, the late Iyengar — who passed away on August 20, 2014 — used to visit his native regularly and organise many programmes related to yoga.
