Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning disrupted life in several parts of Yadgir district. The worst affected was Yadgir city, once again exposing the lack of preparation on the part of the civic authorities to tackle flood-like situations and leaving chocked-up drains uncleaned.

Besides entering the vegetable market, the sewage containing toxic materials entered several low-lying areas in the old city, which lacks a drainage system. The vegetable vendors suffered heavy losses, with the sewage spoiling their wares.

“We have visited several areas to inspect the damages and taken all measures to solve the problems faced by citizens due to rain,” Suresh Kotimani, Chairman of Yadgir City Municipal Council told The Hindu . Apart from this, Shahapur, Surpur, Gurmitkal town and other taluks also received a good spell of rainfall. No reports on damages due to rain were received, said Manoj Jain, Deputy Commissioner.

According to official sources, Yadgir city received 42.6 mm rainfall followed by 17 mm in Saidapur, 18.2 mm in Gurmitkal, 41 mm in Wadagera, 40.6 mm in Surpur town, 50.2 mm in Narayanapur and 39.4 mm in Kakkera.
