The District Advocates Association has called for Yadgir bandh on January 17 to send a strong message to the government to address its demand for a new court complex in the city.

Meanwhile, the indefinite dharna launched by the advocates outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here entered the fifth day on Friday. The advocates are also boycotting court proceedings.

Mahipal Reddy Itagi, president of the association, told presspersons that 32 organisations have expressed support to their ongoing dharna.

Hundreds of advocates were participating in the dharna outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office but the district administration has done nothing to address their grievance, he said. Therefore, the association members have decided to call for Yadgir bandh on January 17, he added.

Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Madiga Dandora Samiti, Sriram Sene, Tipu Sultan Sangha, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, District Banjara Community, Karntaka Kshatriya Maratha Sangha, District Uppar Community and Jaya Karnataka Sangha have extended support to the ongoing dharna, he said and added that they would also support the bandh.

Mr. Itagi also requested the general public, traders, and others to join hands with the advocates in their agitation.

Advocates expressed displeasure over Priyank Kharge, district in-charge and IT/BT Minister, and A.B. Maalakaraddi, MLA from Yadgir, for not meeting the advocates.

Meanwhile, Channareddy Patil Tunnur, former MLC and others, met the advocates and extended support to them.

Boycott of court proceedings by advocates in Surpur and Shahapur supporting the ongoing dharna will continue till Saturday. They will decide the future course of action after a meeting on Monday, sources said
