Writer Savitha Nagabhushan has said that Kannada should become language of instruction in school level to ensure comprehensive development of the personality of the children. She was addressing the seventh Shivamogga taluk level Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held under the aegis of Kannada Sahitya Parishat(KSP) in Pillangiri village near here on Sunday.
Ms. Nagabhushan, who presided over the event, said academic research works have proved that children who receive education in their mother tongue will have excellent comprehension and articulation skills. The usage of Kannada in all rungs of administration as well as in our day-to-day lives should be promoted, she said.
Social activist Kadidal Shamanna, who inaugurated the event by playing a flute, called upon farmers to avoid lavish spending on marriage ceremonies. By spending a large amount of money for non-productive purposes, farmers are falling into the trap of debt. He stressed on the need to promote mass marriages in rural areas.
Sharada Poorya Naik, MLA for Shivamogga Rural and D.B. Shankarappa, president of KSP district unit were present.
Prior to the inaugural ceremony, Ms. Nagabhushan was taken out in a procession.
Performances by veeragase and dollu kunitha folk art troupes was organised as part of the event.
