A workshop on pest management in the conservation of heritage properties will be conducted in Mysuru.

The Regional Conservation Laboratory (RCL) will conduct a workshop on ‘Integrated Pest Management in Museum – a Modern Approach’ on Monday and Tuesday.

It will disseminate information on key topics such as museum pests and their control through sustainable integrated pest management and recent advances in the field. The programme will have practical demonstrations. Experts from CFTRI, Mysuru, and Pest Control of India have been invited as resource persons.

The awareness programme will be attended by staff and professionals in various organisations responsible for safeguarding cultural material in museums, galleries, libraries and cultural institutions from south India and Maharastra.

The RCL said India has a rich and diverse cultural heritage. Heritage material, particularly materials that are organic in nature, tend to deteriorate due to fungi, insects and rodents. The task of preserving and safeguarding them for posterity remains a huge task. It requires professional expertise and technical competency.

The programme will be inaugurated by A.K. Nautiyal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, at the Regional Museum of Natural History.
