A woman staged a protest in front of her husband’s house at Srinidhi Layout in Tumakuru city on Tuesday, demanding justice from the family who were allegedly harassing her for dowry. According to S.C. Rajkumar, district secretary of Varadakshine Virodhi Vedike, Nagamani of Kundarpi village in Anantpur district of Andhra Pradesh was married to T.G. Venkatesh in April, 2013.

During the time of marriage, Rs. 80,000 was given to the bridegroom. Apart from this, the bride’s family had spent Rs. 4 lakh on the marriage and jewellery.

After the marriage, Nagamani was allegedly harassed for dowry by her husband and in-laws.

Unable to bear this, she went to her parent’s house in Hiriyur. She approached the Varadakshine Virodhi Vedike in December 2014 seeking help to reunite with her husband. On Tuesday, when she went to her husband’s house, she was allegedly told to leave. When she refused, she was allegedly beaten by her husband and his family members, after which she staged a dharna demanding justice.
