A woman has given birth to a child on a road in Kamalapur town in Ballari district on Friday.

Ratnabai of Kere Tanda, had come for check-up at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) on Friday and said that she had experienced labour pain a couple of days ago.

After the check-up, the doctors on duty asked her to come to the hospital, if she experienced the pain again.

On her way back, she gave birth to a girl child on the road. People rushed the mother and new born to hospital. They also took the staff on duty to task, by accusing them of negligence.

Preliminary inquiry

Dr. Hariprasad, Taluk Health Officer, who, on getting the information, rushed to the PHC and ascertained the details during his preliminary inquiry.

Denying negligence of any kind on the part of the doctors and staff on duty, Dr. Hariprasad told The Hindu that in cases of multigravida, spontaneous delivery does take place before the expected date of delivery.

“During check-up she did not complain of any pain. The doctors informed her to come again if she experienced labour pain. In the meantime, spontaneous delivery had occurred,” he explained.

Both mother and child are in good health, he added.
