Withdraw bandh call, mutts urged

January 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - Vijayapura:

Congress District General Secretary S.M. Patil urged various mutts in the district to withdraw the district bandh called on Monday saying that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had already announced to withdraw the bill to amend the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act.

“When the Chief Minister has announced the withdrawal of the bill then there is no point in holding an agitation or calling for a district bandh,” Mr. Ganihar said here on Saturday. But Mr. Siddaramaiah had made it clear that, as per the law, the bill should be withdrawn only during the Assembly session as it was introduced in the Assembly session.

“The Chief Minister has said that he would be withdrawing the proposal in the coming Budget session,” Mr. Ganihar said.

The Congress leader said that people, especially the farmers who bring their commodities to sell at the APMC yard, patients and small vendors, would largely get affected by the bandh.

Asserting that mutts had a greater responsibility in safeguarding the interest of the public, Mr. Ganihar said that mutts should not be driven by political parties who tried to score political points.

On the occasion, he urged the district administration and the district police not to grant permission to the bandh call and make sure that normal life does not get affected.
