Violence: 28 arrested in Gandasi village

The Gandasi police have arrested 28 people in connection with violence reported in the village on Monday evening. The arrested have been remanded to judicial custody.

As many as 150 persons had staged a protest and allegedly threw stones at police station.

The violence broke out following a rumour that a person, who the police had enquired of, had died of police torture.

This prompted a protest in front of the police station and the police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the crowd. that gathered.

The police traced Shekhare Gowda, whom the protesters believed to be ‘dead’, in Nelamangala near Bengaluru on Tuesday.

The police had questioned him in connection with a complaint filed against him on May 9 and had let him off on the same day. However, he got admitted to HIMS in Hassan. He had fled from the hospital on Monday and this had resulted in the rumour.
