Hundreds of villagers gathered and staged a protest in Gowdagera village in Yadgir taluk on Sunday and demanded the arrest of those who damaged the stone-made statue of Nijasharana Ambigara Chowadayya, installed at a circle of village.

The incident was suspected to have occurred on Saturday night, which was noticed on Sunday morning. Immediately, they staged protest and demanded immediate action.

They said that Nijasharana Ambigara Chowdayya was one among the saints, who fought against the social imbalance, caste system and socials evils through ‘vachanas’ and added that disrespecting the statue of such saints is not only an offence but also insult to the humanity.

They withdrew the protest after Deputy Superintendent of Police R.B. Basaragi and other senior officer rushed to the spot and assured to take immediate action against those responsible.

A case has been registered in Saidapur police station and police launched search operation against the miscreants.
