Karnataka Dalit Hindulida Vargagala Rakshana Vedike president A. Tyagraj has stated that an agitation would be launched across the State to pressure the Congress high command to make a Dalit leader the Chief Minister.
Addressing reporters here on Friday, he said a few months ago, the vedike had stopped demanding for a Dalit CM, hoping that the Congress leaders would understand the demand of Dalits in the State. But since no steps had been taken, it had become inevitable to launch the agitation, he said.
The vedike had written to AICC president Sonia Gandhi urging for immediate steps in this regard. They said Dalits in Karnataka had supported the Congress for decades due to its secular credentials but unfortunately the party was using Dalits as a vote-bank.
There are also plans to take a delegation to Ms. Gandhi to convince her on the importance of making a Dalit leader the Chief Minister. If the party high command refused to fulfill the demand, an indefinite agitation would be launched, he added.
