Ugrappa pulls up Kolar district administration

October 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 08:13 am IST - Kolar:

V.S. Ugrappa, MLC and Chairman of the Karnataka Legislature Subcommittee on Prevention of Violence and Sexual Abuse of Women and Children, admonished the Kolar district administration for attending a review meeting convened by the committee without adequate preparation.

The meeting was attended by district-level officers of various departments, including Women and Child Welfare Development, Education and Social Welfare on Monday. Mr. Ugrappa and other committee members took the officers to task for their failure to provide proper information on atrocities on women and children in the district.

The MLC did not spare even Deputy Commissioner K.V. Thrilokchandra.

“There were lacunae in the working of the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner should be taking more interest in this regard,” Mr. Ugrappa told reporters after the meeting.

He also took the Police Department to task saying there were loopholes in its functioning.

The Deputy Commissioner and the heads of the Social Welfare and Women and

Child Welfare Development Departments are not aware of the new circular on providing relief to rape victims. This reflects the negligence of the district administration.
