Two killed in accident

Two motorcycle riders were killed on the spot and another sustained serious injuries after their vehicle collided with a van at the bypass junction on the outskirts of Lingasugur, about 100 km from here, on Sunday morning.

The deceased were identified as Veeresh Badiger (30) and Nagaraj (24), residents of Kasaba Lingasugur and Lingasugur town respectively. The injured, Hanumanth (30), has been admitted to local government hospital. The police said that all the victims were riding on one bike when the accident took place.

A case has been registered in Lingasugur Police Station.

Goonda Act arrest

The city police invoked the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug-offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum-grabbers Act, 1985 (Goonda Act) and arrested Prakash alias Balu Pawar (32) under Section 2 of the Act on Sunday.

Police Commissioner S. Ravi said that the accused has been remanded to Ballari Central Prison.

The accused had allegedly been involved in various crimes and offences, including attempt to murder, destruction of public property, intimidation, etc. since the past five years.
