Trust donates ₹81 lakh to needy patients

Philanthropist G. Shankar, to mark his 63rd birthday on October 5, donated ₹81 lakh to cancer and dialysis patients of Kasturba Hospital here.

A release issued by the hospital said that through the G. Shankar Family Trust’ established in 2002, Dr. Shankar has been engaged in realising his dream of ushering in a better society free from pain and poverty. Since inception, the trust has been doing charitable service for the poor.

At the function, where he made his contribution to the poor, he said: “Sharing a part of my wealth with the needy is my motto and I will continue doing it till I am able to. Last year, on my 62nd birthday, over ₹2 crore was donated to various hospitals in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada to take care of the medical expenses of poor patients,” he said.

This year, he decided to donate nearly ₹41 lakh towards medical expenses of 163 poor cancer patients and another ₹40 lakh for about 200 patients suffering from kidney disease. He made these contributions in the memory of his mother, Laxmi Soma Bangera, who was also diagnosed with cancer.
