Traffic signal in Hubballi and Dharwad to be synchronised

October 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - HUBBALLI:

Police Commissioner of Hubballi Dharwad Pandurang Rane, who has earlier served in the traffic department of Bengaluru Police, has said that the department would take up upgrading and synchronisation of traffic signals in Hubballi-Dharwad to improve traffic management.

Addressing his maiden press conference after assuming office as the Hubballi Dharwad Police Commissioner, Mr. Rane admitted that there were several issues troubling the traffic management in the twin cities and he and other experts were studying the issues.

The issues of traffic management at junctions and arterial roads of the twin cities could be resolved with cooperation from the municipal body. After a detailed study, steps would be taken to synchronise the traffic signals as well as taking other steps, he said.

“We are looking into aspects like specifying timing for entry of loaded trucks into the city, identifying a permanent venue for protests and dharnas and other issues. But we will ensure that the public is not put to inconvenience due to the measures introduced by us. An awareness drive will also be carried out on traffic issues in colleges,” he said.

Mr. Rane said that while the department was taking every step to curb illegal activities including cricket betting, gambling and fleecing of borrowers by private moneylenders, the citizens should also extend cooperation for ensuring that the twin cities became safe for them.

‘Action will be taken’

Regarding the assault on the cameraman of the private news channel in Hubballi on Saturday, he said taking serious note of the issue, the police had already registered a suo motu case and said that within a fortnight all the accused in the case would be behind bars.
