In response to the nation-wide strike call given by the Joint Committee of Trade Unions (JCTU) members of various trade unions staged a dharna here on Friday.

The JCTU had given call for observing Friday as ‘National Agitation Day’ to protest against the proposed move to amend the labour laws terming the decision of the Union Government as unilateral decision that would affect the rights of the working class.

Members of various trade unions including BMS, CITU, AITUC, HMS, AIUTUC, INTUC, associations of BSNL, banking, insurance and postal employees and others took part in the dharna staged before Mini Vidhana Soudha. The dharna was staged from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and subsequently a memorandum was submitted to the Hubballi tahsildar.
