TP members irked over wrong entries in caste certificates

May 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Udupi:

The issue of wrong entries in caste certificates and income certificates for students and ration cards dominated the general body meeting of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat here on Thursday.

Umesh Naik, member, said that some parents had applied for the certificates while admitting their children to schools. But there were mistakes in some certificates issued by the special tahsildar’s office in Brahmavar. A person belonging to one caste was shown to be belonging to another caste and this was also the case with the income certificates. Parents were forced to go to the special tahsildar’s office many times to correct the mistakes, he said.

Devadas Hebbar, member, said that the work to enter the details in caste and income certificates had been outsourced to some agencies, who allegedly appointed incompetent persons to enter the data. This had resulted in the mistakes, he said.

Sunita Shetty, member, said that these mistakes were not limited to caste and income certificates alone. It extended to ration cards and even Aadhaar cards. Finally, the House passed a resolution urging the Deputy Commissioner to take corrective measures on this matter.

Mr. Hebbar alleged that the Panchayat Development Officer in Belle Gram Panchayat had unilaterally increased taxes without consulting either the president or the vice-president or the general body.

Rajendra Bekal, executive officer of the taluk panchayat, said that he would call the officer and seek an explanation.

Bhaskar, member, said that there was traffic congestion in Padubidri, clogging the main road, which was also National Highway 66.

Sunita Naik, taluk panchayat president, was present.
