TP member dies in road accident

A member of the Udupi Taluk Panchayat was killed when he fell from his motorcycle and was then run over by a truck at Saligrama village coming under Kota Police Station limits on Saturday evening.

According to the Kota police, Keshav Kumar, aged about 40, was driving his motorcycle from Saligrama to Udupi, when his vehicle hit the divider on the National Highway 66 and he fell down near Mantapa Hotel in Saligrama.

A fish laden lorry moving in the same direction ran over him and he died on the spot.

A case had been registered at the Kota police station and investigations were on. Rash and negligent driving by the lorry driver is said to be the cause of the accident, the police said.

Killed in accident

A cyclist was killed after he was hit by a van near Ashirwad theatre on Friday. According to the police, Krishnayya Ganiga was riding from Santhekatte to Udupi, and the van hit from behind.

A severely injured Ganiga was rushed to the District Government Hospital here, where doctors pronounced him brought dead.

The van driver did not stop after hitting the bicycle. A case has been registered at the Udupi Traffic Police Station.
