Thumbs up for ropeway project?

June 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - MYSURU:

The Tourism Department appears to be going ahead with the controversial ropeway project to Chamundi Hills with Minister for Tourism R.V. Deshpande saying that he has not come across resistance to the project.

The project was announced in the State Budget of 2015-16. Addressing presspersons on Monday, the Minister said, “We are in a democracy and everybody have right to counter. Assent and dissent is common. But, I’m not aware of resistance to the cable car project.”

He added, “I’m ready to talk to those opposing the project and try to persuade them. I understand that we need to strike a balance as there will be no compromise on environment protection.”

‘I’ll try to convince those opposing the project; such projects are necessary for tourism growth but I agree there is a need to strike a balance’
