Mounting debts allegedly forced three farmers to end their lives in the last 24 hours in Mandya taluk.

While Mahesh availed loans for his sisters’ marriages, Kumar took loans for farm activities and for personal issues.
A nationalised bank had recently instructed Kumar to repay the loan as he failed to clear it in spite of repeated reminders, sources at Honnanayakana Halli said. Later, they filed a complaint stating Basavarajappa ended his life due to debt, Srirangapatna subdivision police said. The police have launched investigations. According to preliminary investigations, two farmers had not supplied sugarcane to any mill, and hence no sugar mills had dues to pay to them.
