They want dal, 30-kg rice, and much more

Ramanath from Kodagu, who is one of the Anna Bhagya beneficiaries, asked the Chief Minister to provide kerosene to BPL and APL families even if they have cooking gas connection. He said there was no power in Madikeri since some days owing to rain.

“If the government gives kerosene, it will be of great help for schoolchildren. People have been living in the dark since many days,” he said. He appealed to the Chief Minister to provide kerosene to all, irrespective of whether the cardholder has gas connection or not.

Anitha from Davangere, another Anna Bhagya beneficiary, asked the Chief Minister to provide dal along with rice and wheat, as the prices had gone up considerably. Middle class and poor people cannot afford to buy toor dal at the existing price, she said and asked Mr. Siddaramaiah to provide all essential foodgrains to the poor either for free or at subsidised prices.

Latha from Mandya demanded that the government restore the old system of giving 30 kg rice to BPL families. She said children could not be sufficiently fed with the meagre foodgrain given under the unit system.

A beneficiary, while thanking Mr. Siddaramaiah for waiving off loan along with interest of farmers and other poor beneficiaries, said that co-operative units and banks had refused to refinance them saying that they had availed the benefit of loan waiver. The Chief Minister said there was no rule that a person whose loan had been waived off cannot take loan again.

Beneficiaries urged the Chief Minister to provide Ashraya houses to them.
