They don’t want Bangalore’s waste

December 04, 2012 01:51 am | Updated 01:51 am IST - Mandya:

Residents of Kodikerenahalli in Bidadi taluk of Ramanagaram district have launched protests against the proposed garbage disposal plant in their village.

They threatened to set garbage trucks on fire if they tried to dump Bangalore’s waste in their village.

“The unit will ruin our livelihood. It will pollute the groundwater in the area and will smell,” said Thimmanna, a resident of the village.

The Cabinet on Thursday decided to set up a garbage disposal plant at Kodikerenahalli village to dispose off garbage collected from Bangalore. A temporary road was built to the proposed site on Saturday.

However, residents have opposed the move, staging demonstrations and holding round-the-clock sit-ins at the site since Sunday.
