The first leg of The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling Session got off to a perfect start at the packed Doddappa Appa Auditorium here on Sunday with speakers from different fields explaining the avenues available to students, about to select their academic careers, in various fields.

The three-hour session was a revelation for students and their parents, who listened raptly to the experts from Engineering, Fine Arts, Tourism, General Education and the official from the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

Inaugurating the session, Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Karnataka, H.M. Maheshwaraiah, who also released a handbook, ‘thenxt.step Fusing career and Passion’, brought out by The Hindu EducationPlus and given free to all participants, praised The Hindu for conducting the session for the past 12 years.

“I know how difficult it is for children and their parents to choose the right kind course after PUC. I myself had undergone this ordeal when my daughter finished her PUC and at that time the career counselling concept was not there and you (students) are fortunate now that The Hindu is organising such a career counselling session by inviting experts from different fields,” he said.

The highlight of the was the lectures by General Education Expert Arham Faraaz and expert from KEA Sangeeta Kattimani.

If Mr. Faraaz kept the audience glued to their seat with his witty interaction packed with information pertaining to all the opportunities available for the students on the verge of choosing their career, Prof. Kattimani’s elaborate presentation of the modalities followed in admitting the students through online counselling by the KEA was a revealing experience for the students and parents.

Experts from the Tourism Sector (Vanishree of College of Master of Tourism) and Fine Arts (V.G. Andani, former Chairman of the Karnataka Lalithkala Academy) shed light on the opportunities in these two vibrant sectors for the students.
