There was tension around Kittur Chennamma Circle in Hubballi on Saturday night after members of pro-Hindutva outfits intercepted a vehicle transporting cattle and beat up the driver, which consequently resulted in a violent protest causing injuries to two persons, including a media cameraman.

According to sources, a group of pro-Hindutva activists intercepted the transport vehicle that was carrying cattle allegedly to a slaughterhouse. They pulled the driver out of the vehicle and beat him up.

As the news spread, a mob rushed to the location, threw stones indiscriminately forcing the pro-Hindutva activists to flee. Shekhar, a cameraman of a private news channel, who was covering the incident, was manhandled and beaten up.

Soon, the police intervened and tried to control the situation by dispersing the crowd. The transport vehicle was also removed from the location.

Both the driver of the vehicle and Shekhar are admitted at KIMS Hospital. A huge posse of police personnel has been deployed at Kittur Chennamma Circle.

Senior police officials visited the spot and took stock of the situation. They said that the situation was under control now.

Following the incident, shops and commercial establishments around the busy traffic junction closed down immediately.
