Temperature soars in Bidar

May 21, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Bidar:

Residents are sweating it out as temperature has soared in Bidar to a record 43 degrees Celsius.

Experts say if the heat wave continues, the mercury would break the 100-year record of 43.3 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature of 43.3 degrees Celsius ever recorded was on May 8, 1931. The biggest drop came on January 5, 1907, when it touched 3.9 degrees Celsius.

The temperature is between 39 degrees Celsius and 43 degrees Celsius in May this year. Scientists say it could go up further at least till the last week of May, according to the records maintained at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra here.

Scientists, however, say this may be a sign of a good monsoon. Bidar that receives an annual average rainfall of 900 mm, has suffered two failed monsoon seasons in the last two years.
