The Prakasam district authorities have sought technical assistance of UNICEF to overcome the impact of fluoride on the watertable in the affected area, according to Joint Collector M.Hari Jawaharlal.
“The administration is also planning to constitute a District Fluoride Monitoring Unit (DFMU) under the chairmanship of a Gazetted officer,” Mr. Jawaharlal told The Hindu .
Giving details about the other plans to tackle the crisi, he said that a Bengaluru-based non-governmental organisation had come forward to work in the affected villages by roping in youngsters.
A permanent solution can be found to this perennial problem, only when the Rs. 5,150-crore Veligonda project is completed, opines CPI(M) district Secretary P. Anjaneyulu.
