Survey for high tension line opposed

May 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - Udupi:

People of Kalathur village staged a dharna and objected to the survey being carried out to lay high tension power lines from Nandikur village to the crude oil reserve cavern of Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Ltd. at Padur village in Udupi district on Friday.

Deviprasad Shetty, President of Udupi Taluk Grama Panchayat Okkoota, told the gathered people that the people of Kalathur village and surrounding areas had given up their land as the crude oil cavern facility was meant for defence purposes. But the decision of the authorities to conduct a survey for a high tension line without consulting the local people was unpardonable.

Mr. Guruprasad told presspersons that the protestors and officials of the ISPRL would meet Deputy Commissioner R. Vishal on Saturday. The survey work will continue from Saturday, he said.
