The Shivamogga Urban Development Authority (SUDA) launched a crackdown on unauthorised residential layouts here on Monday by removing the drainage slabs, stones demarcating the boundaries and electricity poles from seven such layouts with poke lane machine.

It may be mentioned here that SUDA had earlier issued notices to property developers, who had commenced the work of developing the layouts without obtaining mandatory approval from the authorities, including the permission for land conversion. Seven layouts were coming up in survey numbers 214, 215, 217, 219 and 221 in Urgadur locality on the outskirts of the city. It was said that property developers had tried to sell vacant sites there by assuring the prospective buyers that they would get their sites registered by paying necessary fine under the Sakrama scheme.

The operation was executed with police security.

N. Ramesh, Chairman of SUDA, said that similar action would soon be taken up against other unauthorised layouts in Shivamogga.
