President of the South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (SWRWWO) Rashmi Mital has appealed to students to convince and motivate their neighbours to plant saplings in their localities.

She was addressing a gathering during the inauguration of the ‘Tree Plantation Programme’ held at the SWRWWO English-medium High School located on Gadag Road here on Tuesday.

Ms. Mital said the initiative was a way to create awareness among children about environment conservation. Highlighting the need to plant saplings on a regular basis and nurture them, Ms. Mital said a tree in one’s neighbourhood created an atmosphere of natural beauty and serenity around it.

Executive committee members of SWRWWO Dipti Joshi, Jyoti Govindkumar, Kanchan and others were present.

Teej festival

SWRWWO also celebrated a Teej festival at the Railway Officers’ Club here recently. General Manager of South Western Railway Ashok Kumar Mital, SWRWWO president Rashmi Mital and others participated in the function, a release said.
