Hundreds of students from different colleges boycotted their classes and held demonstrations outside the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Tuesday demanding Gulbarga University authorities to withdraw its recent notification that “denied the students of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe fee concession”.

Two rallies, one from SSM College and another from LVD College, were take out. They raised slogans against the University authorities, condemning the issuing of the notification.

Addressing the agitating students, Chennabasava Janekal, a youth leader associated with All India Democratic Youth Organisation, condemned the University for “running away from its duties”. “The University had so far collected money from the State government for the exam fee concession it offered to students of disadvantaged sections. It has now transferred its responsibilities to respective colleges. It would lead private colleges to exploit students,” he said.

New method

He demanded that the University withdraw the new method of fee collection and reimbursement.

He warned that his organisation would have to organise a march to Gulbarga University, if the demand was not met.
