The dreaded disease AIDS has been steadily declining in the country due to the awareness programmes, M.N. Nagabhushan, Deputy Commissioner of Mandya, has said.

He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘World AIDS Day’ programme at Raitha Sabhangana here on Monday.

A lot of institutions and non-governmental organisations across the country, along with the association of government departments, have been tirelessly working to create awareness among the people on AIDS. Therefore, the prevalence of the disease has been slightly declining, he said.

The D.C. has urged the people affected by HIV/AIDS to avail medical and other benefits available from the government without any hesitation.

Earlier, Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase flagged off an awareness rally near Sir M. Visvesvaraya statue off Bengaluru-Mysuru highway.
