B. Sriramulu, MP, has criticised the Congress government for its failure to come to the aid of the farmers, especially in districts where ready-to-harvest paddy crops were damaged in the recent pre-monsoon rain.
He told reporters on Thursday that the government had not proposed to the Union government to set up paddy-procurement centres at a time when paddy growers had lost out on poor yield and crash in the market price.
“I, along with Koppal MP Karadi Sanganna, met Union Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and requested him to order establishment of procurement centres to help farmers.
“But we have learnt that the government has not sent a letter in this regard. Similarly, the government has not initiated any steps to get the dues of the sugarcane growers cleared which is very unfortunate,” he said.
‘No achievement’
He said the government had achieved nothing in the two years in power and the Congress had lost the faith of the people. As a result, it would fair badly in gram panchayat polls.
