Members of Sri Rama Sene, led by their president Pramod Muthalik, and some seers staged a protest here against writer K.S. Bhagavan for hurting the religious sentiments of the people and seeking action against him.

The protestors also condemned what they termed as attempts to frame the organisation’s members in the assassination of writer and researcher Prof. Kalburgi. They first held a demonstration at Kittur Chennamma Circle condemning the State government’s failure to arrest Prof. Bhagavan, despite several cases booked against him for hurting religious sentiments.

They then burnt old tyres and also photographs of Prof. Bhagavan to register their protest.

Addressing the protestors Mr. Mutalik said that instead of taking action against Prof. Bhagavan for his defamatory statements against Hindu deities, the State government was actually protecting him.

He also alleged that some writers and intellectuals were pressurising the investigating officers to frame Sri Rama Sene in the murder of Prof. Kalburgi, although the Sena members had no role in it. The protestors then marched to Mini-Vidhan Soudha and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister.
