The Congress has destroyed the country in the six decades of its rule, Nitin Gadkari, Union Surface Transport Minister, said in Khanapur on Monday.

Speaking at a road show in the town, he criticised the Congress for having neglected the country’s interests for 70 years and for focussing only on one family’s interests. He was campaigning for the party candidate Vithal Halgekar.

“While we are concerned about how the children of farmers will get jobs, Sonia Gandhi is worried about how Rahul Gandhi will get a ‘job’,’’ Mr. Gadkari said.

“We want the politics of development and end dynastic rule, while the Congress does not want development. They want family rule to continue. But we will throw them out from Karnataka, this time. The Siddaramaiah government has broken all records of corruption. I assure you that half of his Ministers will be in jail, if our government comes to power. They have committed so many sins and engaged in such corrupt activities that they deserve jail terms,” he said.

“The Congress leaders have looted money from the poor, Dalit, backward classes, common man and farmers. They have not only looted the poor but have also divided the society on the basis of caste and communal lines. I assure you that the NDA government, led by Narendra Modi, will change the face of Karnataka. We will give houses to the poor, 24 hours power and water supply to the agriculture fields. We have already distributed LPG cylinders to the poor under the Ujwala scheme. We will also provide jobs to the children of farmers,” the Minister said.

He also promised to support the construction of a dam in Khanapur and provide irrigation to all farm land. Development work has begun here. The four-lane cement concrete road from Belagavi to Panjim in Goa will pass through Khanapur. It will help create jobs and bring prosperity to this backward taluk, he said.
