A sloth bear was killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle near J.C. Pura in Arasikere taluk on Thursday night. The residents of the village informed officers of the Forest Department on Friday.

Ganesh S. Bhat, Deputy Conservator of Forests, told The Hindu that a male bear aged about 18-20 years died in the incident. An unknown vehicle had hit the animal while it was crossing the road. The department has registered the case. Last year a leopard was killed in a similar incident on Bengaluru-Mangaluru highway near Channarayapatna.
