Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday participated in the last rites of his sister Chikkamma, 90, who passed away at a hospital in the city on Friday night after a prolonged illness.

She is survived by three sons and three daughters.

Mr. Siddaramaiah arrived in Mysuru by flight and proceeded to Devegowdanahundi in the taluk to pay his last respects and take part in the funeral.

Several Congress leaders and party workers accompanied him to commiserate with the aggrieved family. Later, Mr. Siddaramaiah told reporters that he came from a joint family that lived together till Chikkamma’s children came of age and moved on in their career pursuits. “I last saw her when she was hospitalised a few days ago,” he said.

The CM was accompanied by his son Yatindra. His official commitments for the day were cancelled.
