Shepherds protest at Kolar DC office

It was a day of sheep and shepherds at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kolar on Thursday.

A number of shepherds from Mulbagal flocked to the office with a herd of sheep to register their protest against alleged sanctioning of gomala land to an influential person, divesting them of grazing land. Led by the district unit of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS), the shepherds staged a protest demanding justice.

They alleged that 2.20 acres of land on survey No. 36P2 at T. Kurubarahalli was illegally sanctioned to Thulasiram Shetty, an employee of Gaddur grama panchayat. The Revenue Department officials have connived with him in this illegal transaction, they alleged.

The outfit also demanded action against Nangli Police Station Sub-Inspector Sharathkumar for his alleged highhandedness in harassing the shepherds who sought justice in the case. The land should be preserved as gomala for the convenience of sheep and shpherds, it urged.

KRRS State vice-president K. Narayana Gowda and district convener K. Srinivasa Gowda participated in the protest.
