The fortnight-long annual jatra and car festival to commemorate the 197th death anniversary of social reformer and saint Sharanabasaveshwara will begin in the historic city of Kalaburagi on March 25.

Sharnbasavappa Appa, eighth peetadhipathi of the Sharanbasaveshwara Samstham and president of the Sharnbasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangh, addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, said that the temple is all spruced up for the annual car festival of Saint Sharanabasaveshwar, who spread the message of communal amity among people.

Uchaya, a mini-car festival, will be held on the temple premises a day before the rathotsava, on March 24.

Lingaraj Shastri, Dean at Sharnbasva University, said that elaborate arrangements were being made for the smooth conduct of the car festival. Nearly 400 rooms are available for providing accommodation to devotees coming from neighbouring districts and States, he added.
