Former Deputy Chairman of the legislative council, B.R. Patil, MLA, has urged the scientific community to be wary of the attempts made to mix religion with science and give new meanings to the scientific findings.
Speaking after inaugurating the two-day Karnataka Science and Technology Academy Conference on “Scince and Technology for Disaster management” in Kalaburagi city on Thursday, Mr. Patil referred to the discussions during the recent Science Congress in Mumbai where several mythological theories were given scientific authenticity.
Mr. Patil said that the scientific facts were established after thorough research tests and this should not be belittled by what was mentioned in mythology as scientific facts.
He said that it was unfortunate that the people enjoyed the benefits from technological developments but did not agree to the facts established by the science.
Mr. Patil said although the scientific community had been working overtime to come out with the solutions to all human problems, particularly the disaster management mechanism, the political class lacked the will and commitment to support these activities.
Members of the KSTA and eminent Medical Teacher, P.S. Shankar in his address said that the KSTA was organising the regional conferences on various subjects like the one in Kalaburagi in other centres including Ballari, Udupi, Bengaluru and other centres.
To bring more and more merited students under the umbrella of basic science education, Dr. Shankar said that the KSTA was offering a scholarship of Rs. 1,000 per month to per student who joined B.Sc courses after scoring 70 per cent marks in the PUC and those who join the M.Sc were paid a monthly scholarship of Rs. 1,500.
