The first set of uniforms for children studying in government and aided schools across Mysuru district will be delivered to their houses starting next week.

The Department of Public Instruction in Mysuru has already delivered textbooks to children’s homes in May. Textbooks have been supplied to all unaided schools based on their orders.

“While the free distribution of textbooks to government and aided schools has been completed, 95 percent of unaided schools have received textbooks,” said Deputy Director of Public Instruction H.R. Basappa.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Basappa said the department provides fabric to the children and the stitching cost has to be borne by the children’s families. The second set of uniforms distributed after two months under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) will be the stitched ones, he said.

Mr. Basappa said textbooks and uniforms had been supplied to 4.5 lakh children in 3,060 government and aided schools and 181 unaided schools across the district last year. Following a good show put up by students studying in government schools from Mysuru district in this year’s SSLC examination, admissions are expected to rise, according to Mr Basappa.

The district secured 10th position in SSLC results, and students from rural areas performed outstandingly well in the exam.
