KALABURAGI 14.09.2018
The district unit of Kannada Sahitya Parishat has appealed to the public to donate funds for the renovation of Kannada Sabha Bhavan in Kalaburagi. Addressing a media conference at his office here on Friday, Veerabhadra Simpi, district president of the literary organisation, said that the funds collected through donations would be spent for setting up a well-equipped function hall.
“We need around ₹ 4 lakh for improvement of fthe unction hall. We have planned to set up a well-equipped function hall with over 200 chairs, microphone set, stage lights, LED bulbs, colouring, curtains and other material. Since the Parishat is not receiving any funds from the government, it is completely dependent on voluntary donations,” he said. “I expect ₹ 100 from each individual and ₹ 500 from each member of the Parishat.”
Expressing displeasure over poor literary enthusiasm among the public, especially in the younger generation, in the region, Mr. Simpi said that the increased literary activities would help people develop an interest in the literary and cultural past of their region and also instigate them to take forward the rich tradition.
“Kalaburagi region has rich literary and cultural traditions. It has made great contributions to Kannada literature, right from Kannada’s first known epic Kavirajamarga through Vachanas to recent works. The unfortunate and sad thing is that the people, particularly the younger generation, have a little knowledge about it. Inculcating awareness about the rich literary-cultural tradition among people and encouraging them to take forward the legacy is the gigantic task before us,” he said.
Sammelana
To a question, Mr. Simpi said that the 17th District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan would be held in the last week of November in Kalaburagi. “The 84th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana is going to be held in Dharwad. We are making serious efforts to convince the Sahithya Parishat to hold the 85th Sammelan in Kalaburagi,” he said.
Vijayakumar, Lingaraj Siragapur, Shivanand Kashetty, Sulekha Malipatil, Anand Nandoorkar, Jhakir Hussein, Madivalappa Nagarahalli and other Sahithya Parishat functionaries were present.
