Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Wednesday announced that the State government was proposing to simplify rules for the formation of residential layouts in cities to deal with the proliferation of slums and ensure orderly and planned development of cities in the State.

Mr. Shettar also announced that there were plans to introduce single-window clearance to overcome hurdles in getting clearances from various departments for layout formation and housing projects.

Speaking after inaugurating the allotment of sites developed by the Mysore Urban Development Authority at Lalithadripura (South) and Chamalapura (Nanjangud), he distributed allotment letters to five beneficiaries. Mr. Shettar admitted that there were hurdles in getting clearances from the departments for layouts developed by urban authorities. “Everybody aspires to own a house. If this is not realised when required, it will result in slums. If rules are relaxed, it will prevent slums from coming up in cities,” he said.
