Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh has said that a Rs. 20,000-crore plan has been prepared to provide houses to all beneficiaries in the State. Rs. 15 crore has been released for conducting a detailed survey of beneficiaries in the State.

Speaking to reporters after laying the foundation stone for construction of houses for the beneficiaries at Gandhi Nagar slum area here on Friday, he said that the State government has instructed officials to take videos of the beneficiaries to prevent bogus lists. The video footage would be shown to the local residents in slum areas to confirm whether they are eligible for houses or not.

There are plans to construct 1,563 houses for the slum dwellers in the district and these houses would be handed over to the beneficiaries only after confirming the details.

“Action would be initiated against those who try to misuse the government scheme by providing bogus documents,” he added.

The State government has taken up construction of 3 lakh houses in different parts of the State.

The construction of 2.10 lakh houses has already been completed and the remaining 90,000 houses would be completed by the end of March this year. There are also plans to construct apartmentsas more people can be accommodated in small sites.

He also clarified that the list of beneficiaries would be finalised at the gram panchayat-level without the interference of MLAs or ministers of the particular districts. So the officers concerned and the gram panchayats should maintain transparency in preparing the list of beneficiaries, he said.

Commenting on the denotification issue, the Minister informed that the Congress and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah have not made any mistakes in this regard and would get a clean chit in any investigation conducted in this regard, he added.
