The State government on Monday sanctioned Rs. 13.55 crore to complete the construction of the Police Gymkhana Sports Complex on the district police headquarters premises (near RTO circle) to house the Police Commissionerate office in the city.

The commissionerate, which was opened here on September 12 last year, is presently housed in the office of the Superintendent of Police situated on the district police headquarters premises. The construction on the complex was taken up in 2010-11 to promote sports and games, and encourage the talented sportspersons within the police department, when Hemant Nimbalkar was the Superintendent of Police of the district. However, the construction came to a grinding halt for various reasons after his transfer.

SI suspended

Police Commissioner S. Ravi has suspended Sub Inspector of Women’s Police Station Jayshree Mane on Monday on the charge of dereliction of duty in connection with the death of Rekha Chougule. Rekha was allegedly burnt by her husband Sandeep Chougule at his house in Bhagya Nagar over a week ago. A complaint was lodged with the Tilakwadi Police which had referred the case to the Women’s Police Station.

PSI Ms. Mane sat on the complaint for four days and failed to arrest the accused. She also did not escalate the matter to the higher authorities in the department, Mr. Ravi said.
