Revenue inspectors and village accountants in their respective villages will be held responsible if farmers do not receive compensation for crop loss in the last kharif season in their bank accounts, Assistant Commissioner T. Raghavendra has said.

Speaking at a meeting of district-level officers here on Wednesday to discuss distribution of compensation of crop loss to farmers in the district, he said that village accountants and revenue inspectors have been given the responsibility of collecting necessary documents from farmers to directly credit the compensation amount in the bank accounts of eligible farmers.

“If any eligible farmer fails to receive the compensation amount, it would be considered a mistake and revenue inspectors and village accountants concerned would be responsible,” he reiterated.

A sum of ₹ 142 crore has been released towards crop loss compensation in the district. If the Aadhaar cards of farmers are linked with bank accounts, the compensation amount would be released directly to such accounts. The officers concerned should verify whether all farmers have linked their bank accounts with Aadhaar cards.

If not, immediate steps should be taken to ensure that they link their bank accounts with Aadhaar cards.

“The compensation amount would be released only after the officers get confirmation from bank officials that the accounts of the beneficiaries have been linked with Aadhaar cards,” he added.

As per records, 3,300 farmers have not linked their bank accounts with aadhaar cards and officers concerned should take steps immediately to get those accounts linked.

In Haikal village, 282 farmers have not linked their accounts with aadhaar cards which clearly shows negligence by the officers concerned, he said.

“It would be inevitable to initiate action against revenue inspectors and village accountants, if the bank accounts of farmers in the respective villages are not linked with aadhaar cards immediately,” he said.
