Maggi comparisons

Maggi noodles is in the news for the wrong reasons… but, it has helped speakers at talks and symposiums draw analogies with this instant food for “ingredients that help make or mar a product”. At the ‘CII-Green Product Certification launch’ pertaining to building products and material, every speaker drew comparisons with Maggi.

“In those days, we were used to our mother’s preparation. It was a ‘deep trust’ in her cooking that made us consume healthy food. With instant food products like Maggi available off-the-shelves, life became easy but somewhere down the line we lost ‘that trust’ as we didn’t know if we were consuming something safe. Can we afford to do this with our built environment?” asked Parasuraman R, Chairman, Green Products & Services Council and Founding Chairman IGBC.

Relying on TV

The control room of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) seems to depend more on television channels for information than their own staff for alerts. On Wednesday evening, soon after a tree fall was reported to have killed a senior citizen, this reporter called up the BBMP control room.

The man who responded confirmed the news with a caveat saying it was appearing as a scroll on a television channel. When quizzed whether he had received any independent confirmation from BBMP staff on the ground, the answer was in the negative. This was almost an hour after the tree fell and the news was all over the electronic media.
